Alisha Deen-Steindler

Legislative Advocate

As Legislative Advocate, Alisha is based in Albany, NY just steps away from the state capitol where she works directly with state lawmakers and their staff to advance the League’s legislative priorities. Before joining the League, Alisha worked on New York state policy and legislation for The Nature Conservancy where she worked for seven budget cycles to protect and grow New York’s Environmental Protection Fund; she was also part of the $4.2 billion Clean Air, Clean Water, Green Jobs Bond Act campaign and led a coalition to get the 30 X 30 goal (30% of lands and waters conserved by the year 2030) codified in NYS law.

Alisha brings with her decades of environmental policy experience with non-profits and government around the country; from Everglades restoration in South Florida, to water and environmental justice in California, to clean water and elections in Eastern Pennsylvania, and developing legislative curriculum for Detroit youth. She earned a BA in Environmental Studies from Florida International University and a MS in Environmental Policy from University of Oregon.
