Bushwick residents spoke up loud and clear for a cleaner, greener, and healthier community over the past couple of months. Yesterday, we made sure they weren’t ignored by dropping off almost 1,000 petitions to Councilmember Antonio Reynoso’s office with the Newtown Creek Alliance.

The petition focused on three main issues around Newtown Creek, a polluted waterway in the heart of Bushwick:

    1. Cutting back on sewage overflows into the creek by reducing storm water runoff.
    2. Creating public access to the creek to increase community involvement.
    3. Improving the cleanliness standards so wildlife can live in the creek.

This has been a great campaign to get residents involved in the health of their community. Healthier waterways means a healthier community for everyone. We look forward to continuing our work with the City Council to improve the health of Newtown Creek and all of Bushwick.
